Why I chose the SuperHealth® Immersion Training and What I Found There
From my earliest experiences with Kundalini Yoga 9 years ago, this practice has felt like “coming home.”
I read the book Meditation as Medicine shortly after finding Kundalini Yoga. Coupled with my background in nursing, the yogic science I was experiencing and feverishly studying really made sense to me.
I thought I would never teach it to others; however, I wanted to be more skilled at sharing it with my husband and our children. So I enrolled in a 50 hour workshop geared towards sharing Kundalini Yoga…and would you believe: I was teaching a weekly class out of my home before the workshop ended?!
Word got around our small town. Within a few months, I was invited to hold a weekly Kundalini Yoga & Meditation class at a therapists’ office. The therapists specialize in pornography and sex addiction recovery and supporting partners and spouses while they heal from betrayal trauma. To say that I felt “in over my head” was an understatement!
So I hopped online to search for help to share these teachings with this specialized population. I found Mukta’s two stunning books (here and here). I signed up for the email newsletter. I also immediately purchased her books, and I began incorporating them into my class as soon as they arrived.
For years, I kept my eye on the SuperHealth® Immersion Training (SHI). It looked lovely! It had a really special feeling about it! My heart just knew I belonged there (at some point). I could easily see the unique value in what was being offered. However, every time it would come around, I felt like I couldn’t possibly clear away my schedule to go to New Mexico for an entire week as a homeschooling mom with young children. I told myself the money was too big an obstacle. Time after time, it would cross my path, and I kept dismissing it as “impossible.”
Finally, three times in one week, two of my Level 1 Kundalini Yoga Teacher Trainers and one of my friends could “see me” going to SuperHealth. Each separately sent me the SuperHealth Immersion Training invitation (that, I’ll add, had already been sent to me directly by the SuperHealth team in my own email inbox). With my teachers and my friend behind me, I took courage and inquired about the possibility.
Thanks to my scholarship application being accepted—-a partial scholarship made possible by generous donors—-and with the support of my husband to take care of our children while I was gone, I was able to enroll! It ended up working out even more smoothly because the 2020 SHI was moved online and to 3 weekends rather than the full week in New Mexico (due to COVID). It was perfect! That switch made it even easier than anticipated to balance the training schedule with my family’s needs.
Now having experienced the training twice (I attended the SHI again in April/May 2021), the “challenges” of investing time, energy, and money seem tiny compared the immense wealth of knowledge and the life-changing experiences I have gained in exchange. Although my husband and I have now “paid it forward” by donating scholarship money for future attendees, with the hindsight of understanding all I’ve gained because of SHI, we would easily pay three or four times the full price for me to be able to attend! IT’S THAT WORTH IT!!!!
Here is what I found at the SuperHealth Immersion Trainings:
Mukta and her SuperHealth team are simply angelic! Just being in their presence is strengthening, encouraging, and healing! They create and hold such a beautiful and nourishing space during the trainings, and they are easy to work with from first inquiry through completing the certification process.
By the time I attended SHI, I was a certified Level 1 and certifying Level 2 Kundalini Yoga Teacher. I found it fascinating how the yoga and meditation portions of the training are unique and specific enough to hold my interest as an “experienced” yoga practitioner, yet they are also simple and clear enough to encourage anyone who was brand new to Kundalini Yoga (AND EVERYONE IN BETWEEN). All could practice together, then confidently share with their own communities after the training.
The course includes two comprehensive manuals. I can’t tell you how often I’ve referred to them for my personal use or as I’ve worked with my yoga students and brain wellness/life coaching clients! One is filled with kriyas (movement sets) and meditations. It is organized by topic (ie—-there is a section for cigarettes and another for alcohol, etc.) The second manual has more of the practical information and application; again, it’s organized by topic. They are easy to navigate in order to find the desired information. There are clear instructions and pictures for the kriyas and meditations. I have found both manuals to be invaluable!
SHI includes world-class experts guest presenting throughout the course! I took pages and pages of notes on topics such as childhood trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) presented by Dr. John Arden to Cold Depression by Shanti Shanti Kaur Khalsa and others. Some guest teachers, such as Gurmukh, even led some of the yoga and meditation sessions! I found these to be rich additions to the knowledge and experiences I had while at SHI.
The online format is fabulous! The schedule makes it easy to keep up with daily life by only having to open up my schedule on the weekends for training rather than a full week. Additionally, the SuperHealth team records the training and makes it available to participants! That means we can easily manage any conflicts in schedules (ideally, let the team know at the time of enrollment), and sessions are available to rewatch over and over again! Breakout rooms are used for small group and partner discussions throughout the course. Even though we were literally joining from all over the world, it didn’t feel like it! The SuperHealth team was magically able to make the online format so cozy; I found no hindrance in making life-long friends.
…as great as these parts of the training are, do you want to know the most important thing I found at the SHI? The effects of experiencing this highly specific application of yogic science, the depth offered of the teachings, and that really special something about Mukta and the SuperHealth Team helped introduce me to my true Self. And THAT has been worth the all the time, money, energy, and efforts it took for me to chose SuperHealth.
